The first visit, and when to come
Bring your child in by their first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. That early visit is short and mostly about getting comfortable: counting teeth, a look at how everything is developing, and answers to your questions about teething, thumbs and bottles.
There is no rushing a nervous child here. We explain what we are doing before we do it, let them hold the mirror, and stop when they need a moment. Parents are welcome to stay alongside.
Sealants, fluoride and what matters at each age
Sealants seal the deep grooves of the back molars soon after they come in, which is where most childhood decay starts. Fluoride varnish strengthens enamel and takes a minute to apply. Both are quick, painless and considerably cheaper than the fillings they prevent.
Habits shift by age. Toddlers: no bottle in bed, and a parent brushing for them. Early school years: supervised brushing, flossing where teeth touch, and watching the sugar frequency more than the quantity. Teens: keeping up hygiene around braces or aligners, and mouthguards for contact sports.
